Ma.Subramaniam was born on 1st June 1959 in a small town near Vaniyampady in North Arcot district. Later his family settled in Pullur village near Chittoor. He did his initial education there. Later the family shifted to Chennai.
Subramanian completed his higher education from Government Higher Secondary School, Saidapet. He then completed his BA from Open University and his law studies from Havnoor Law College, Bangalore. He is a lawyer. He has been an advocate in the Madras High Court since 1999.
He is interested in working out in gym, movies, yoga etc. He is also a marathoner who participated in his first marathon in Puducherry Auroville in 2014 and has crossed 100 marathons so far.
He joined DMK in 1976. During the period 1996-2006, he was the Chairman of Chennai Corporation. He is a staunch supporter of Stalin who is the deputy general secretary of the DMK youth wing. He was the Mayor of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu during 2006-2011. He again contested the mayoral election in 2011 as a DMK candidate. But AIADMK’s Saita Sa. He lost to Duraisamy. During the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, he contested from Saidapet constituency and was elected to the Legislative Assembly. He was re-elected as Saidapet Legislative Assembly Member in 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. Subsequently, on May 7, 2021, he took office as the Minister of Medicine and People’s Welfare of Tamil Nadu.
Kanchana children are warts. Ilanjezhiyan, Anbazhagan. Dr. Subramanian’s elder son Dr. Ilanchezhiyan is working as a doctor in London with his wife and 2 children. Born with a disability, M.S. Anbazagan was bedridden, but he could recognize not only his mother, father and brother but also some people who saw him and laugh, show his hand, express his happiness, and call him mom and dad.
Ma. Subramaniam’s youngest son Anbazagan (34) passed away on 17 Oct, 2020 due to ill health after returning home from Corona infection at Chennai King’s Hospital. At that time, he had posted on his Twitter that the drug that has cured his fatigue for the last 35 years is ‘love’.
